O'Brien died at his home in Pittsburgh on Sunday morning at 10.40 o'clock, aged 74 years. He was a retired Pennsylvania railroad employe and had resided in this city for many years. The remains will be brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. Hyland, of 509 Second street. Funeral at St. Mark's church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, April 23, 1918 W. J. O'BRIEN PASSES AWAY William J. O'Brien, a former well known Altoonan and a veteran of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died at Pittsburgh Sunday morning following a long illness. The remains have been brought to this city for burial. Mr. O'Brien, who was born at Hollidaysburg, 75 years ago last March, spent all but a few years of his life in this city and was one of the best known residents of the East Side at the time of his departure. He was retired from the machine shops at the age of 65, because of ill health. Mr. O'Brien worked for more than thirty years for the Pennsy. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. B. J. Hyland, Altoona; Mrs. G. H. Ashman, of Schenectady, N.Y.; Mrs. G. H. Weiss, Mrs. Adam Duval, Miss Dora, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. C. Springer, of Swissvale; Mrs. A. G. Sellers, of Donora; Charles and John of Altoona. One sister, Mrs. Catharine Wolfe, Hollidaysburg, and three brothers, John, of Hollidaysburg, Charles, of Clearfield and Frank, of Altoona, also survive. The remains were taken to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. B. J. Hyland, 509 Second street, and funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning from St. Mark's Catholic church.
