SUZANNE SICKLER OHL 

  Mrs. Suzanne Sickler Ohl, age 81, of 5 Oak Hill Lane, Tyrone died 
Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Altoona Regional Health System 
Bon Secours Campus. 
  She was born September 11, 1923 at Hillcrest in Tyrone, the daughter 
of Harry and Isabel McNelis Sickler and on July 30, 1976 she was 
married at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, West Orange, NJ to Paul 
Williamson Ohl who preceded her in death September 24, 1995. 
  Known as "Suey" she was the mother and grandmother to the seven 
children of her late sister, Agnes Sickler Glenn, who died in 
California in 1964: James C. Glenn, Yorktown, VA; Harry Lee Glenn, 
Gibraltar, MI; Robert J. Glenn, Port St. Lucy, FL; David Sickler Glenn, 
Webster, NY; Jeanne Glenn Young, Tolland, CT; Kathryn Glenn Pfalzgraf, 
Tolland, CT; and Kenneth Joseph Glenn, Murrieta, CA; 15 grandchildren; 
two brothers, Leonard Christopher Sickler, Fort Myers, FL and Harry K. 
Sickler, Jr, Tyrone and three nephews and five nieces. She was preceded 
in death by two sisters, Agnes Glenn and Margaret Dotson and one 
brother, William Sickler.
  She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1941, a graduate of 
Penn State University with advanced degrees from Columbia and Rutgers 
Universities. Mrs. Ohl enjoyed a national reputation as a Home 
Economics and Consumer Science educator. Her list of accomplishments 
and involvements was long. She was the author of two textbooks, state 
curriculum guides and numerous professional publications. She 
cooperated with government and many businesses on consumer and 
educational projects, the practical application of the metric system 
and the role of home economics in developing countries. She was listed 
in "Who's Who in American Women" and "Leaders in Education". 
  She taught for two years in the Tyrone public schools, did extension 
work in Erie and retired in 1977 after 32 years as Home Economics 
Supervisor-Teacher in the West Orange, NJ public schools. 
  Following her return to live in Tyrone, she was founder of the Tyrone 
Area Historical Society and served as its vice-president. She helped to 
bridge the past for local people. She was a genealogical researcher and 
traveled to Ireland and England to learn about her ancestry. She was 
recognized as "Tyrone's Beloved Historian" by the Tyrone Area Chamber 
of Commerce for which she wrote a monthly history column. She was a 
life member of the American Home Economics Association, the New Jersey 
Home Economic Association, The National Education Association, the 
American Association of University Women, the International Federation 
of Home Economics, the New Jersey Education Association of Retired 
Teachers, the Penn State Alumnae Association and the Alpha Chi Omega 
Sorority.
  She was an active member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church and 
Court St. Rita #523 Catholic Daughters of America.
  Funeral Mass for Mrs. Ohl will be said Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 
10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph T. 
Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends 
may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 5 to 
9 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Matthew's Roman 
Catholic Church, 406 W. 11th Street, Tyrone or to the Tyrone Area 
Historical Society, P.O. Box 1850, Tyrone.
