Lawson Orr, prominent in the business activities of Tyrone for the past 34 years, and former postmaster, died suddenly in the office of his place of business 109 East Tenth street, yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock, following a heart attack. Mr. Orr, who was a wholesale and retail dealer in agriculture impliments and supplies, had been about his place of buisness all day. Shortly after three o'clock he was talking with one of his employes, Fred Musesr. Mr. Musser left the office to go to the wareroom in the rear of the office and upon his return a few minutes later found Mr. Orr in an unconscious condition Dr. John Adams was immediately called but Mr. Orr pass away just a few minutes before the arrival of Dr. Adams. Howard Lawson Orr was a son of George W. and Rachel (Stalker) Orr, pioneer resident of Sinking Valley, and was born in Sinking Valley on December 25, 1864. Mr. Orr attended the public schools of Sinking Valley and was reared on the farm home on which he remained until 1902 when he moved to Tyrone and engaged in the agriculture implement business. On December 27, 1899 he was united in marriage with Miss Cora Bridenbaugh. Mr. Orr was most active in civic and church activities in Tyrone. He was a life-long Republican and was held in high esteem in the community. While a resident of Sinking Valley he served on the school board and was twice elected township supervisor. During his residency in Tyrone Mr. Orr served as a member of the Tyrone borough council from the fourth ward for a period of twelve years, being president of the council for four years. He served as postmaster in Tyrone from February 1, 1928 until July 31, 1933. He was very active in the work of the First Presbyterian church, having last April served as a church trustee for a period of 24 years. He was also a member of Allegheny Gateway Lodge No. 187, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Thelma; also one sister, Mrs. Frank E. Fleck, of Altoona, and two nephews, LeRoy R. Fleck, of New York City, and Donald S. Fleck, of Altoona. Funeral services will be held at the Orr home, 1054 Bald Eagle avenue, on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Speer, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
