Kyle Orr, Samuel K., 1935 _______________________________________________ DORSEY ORR Proprietor of the Orr service station at Fifth avenue and First street, died at 9 o'clock this morning at the family home, 103 Fifth avenue. He had been ill for two weeks, suffering from pneumonia. He was born on Feb. 11, 1880, a son of Samuel K. and Susan (Keith) Orr, his father expiring on March 4 at age 85. He had been ill at the time of the father's death, being unable to attend the funeral. Surviving are his wife, who was Miss Maria J. Kerlin, and tow sons, Frederick Louis and Melvin Garner Orr, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Ella Lynch, and two brothers, Edward and Earl G. Orr, both of Altoona. He was a member of the Methodist church. The remains may be viewed at the family home. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Fifth Avenue Methodist church, with services in charge of Rev. H. Willis Hartsock, assisted by Rev. W. L. McClure, D.D., of the Third Presbyterian church. Internment will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. [Altoona Mirror?, March 15, 1935] _____ J. KYLE ORR J. Kyle Orr, A retired Pennsy employe and well known citizen of the East side, died yesterday afternoon at 4.45 o'clock of acute kidney trouble, at his home 117 Sixth avenue. He was born in Sinking valley, March 12, 1837, his parents being John and Elizabeth Orr. Working on his father's farm until 1855, he came to this city and entered the employ of the Pennsy in the bridge and boiler shops, under Foreman Alexander Smith. After a period of three years, Mr. Orr was suspended with a number of others owing to a depression in business. He then entered the blacksmith shop of his brother-in-law, John Hooper, and learned that trade. He returned to Sinking Valley after completing his trade and established a shop there. In 1861, he returned to this city and again entered the company service in the machine and blacksmith shops, but removed once more to Sinking Valley to engage in farming several years later. In 1881, he again took a position in the local car shops and later in the blacksmith shops. On April 1, 1908, he was formally retired from the service and placed on the pension rolls, after reaching the age limit of 70 years. He was united in marriage on Jan. 11, 1866, to Miss Caroline Fleck, of Sinking Valley, who preceded him to the grave several years ago. While in Sinking Valley, the veteran served several terms as school director and township auditor. Early in his youth, he united with the Presbyterian church. He is the last of a family of nine, and is survived by one daughter, Miss Alice, at home, and a son, Harry B., also at home. The funeral services will be held at his late home at 2.30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, in charge of Rev. J. E. Irvine of the Third Presbyterian church. Interment will follow in the Greenwood cemetery. Altoona Mirror, January 3, 1914 _____ SAMUEL K. ORR Aged 84, of 103 East Fifth avenue, a veteran of the Pennsylvania Railroad company service, died at his home at 11 o'clock last night after an extended illness. Mr. Orr retired from the Altoona works on June 1, 1920, after thirty-four years' employment. He was a cabinet maker by trade. He was born on May 4, 1850, in Sinking valley, but had resided in Altoona his entire life. On Feb. 18, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Sue C. Keith, who died some years ago. Surviving are three sons and one daughter, Edward, at home, Mrs. Ella Lynch, Dorsey B. and Earl G. Orr of the city, five grandchildren and one brother, Grant Orr of the city. Mr. Orr was a member of the Third Presbyterian church. The son, Dorsey B. Orr, is critically ill at the present time, suffering from pneumonia. Funeral services will be conducted at the family home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, in charge of his pastor, Rev. W. L. McClure, D.D., of the Third Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery. The deceased was a highly respected citizen and his death is deeply mourned by a host of friends. Altoona Mirror, March 5, 1935
