Oster, Baltimore, a native of Tyrone, died Saturday of cancer at his home. He was born at Tyrone in 1901, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan V. Oster. Surviving are his widow, Muriel Healey; a sister, Miss Rhoda Oster, Tyrone; and three children, Robert R., Jon F., and Mrs. Mortimer W. Cushman. Dr. Oster was chairman of the physiology department of the University of Maryland Dental School. He held advanced degrees from Penn State College and Harvard University. He taught physics at Williams College from 1928 to 1930 and carried on cancer research at Harvard's Huntingdon Hospital from 1930 to 1935. In 1936, he went to the University of Maryland, and in 1945, he was elected to the post he held at the time of death. He was widely known for advanced research in measuring brain waves for use in treating mental illness and curing cancerous brain tumors. Funeral service and burial were private.
