C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Elders Ridge, the daughter of Elmer C. and Hazel (LeBeau) Painter, and Jan. 1, 1942, in Alexandria, Va., married William Joseph Clever. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Darla Naugle of Lewistown. Mrs. Dani Rosenberry of Altoona and Mrs. Diane Bell of Winburne, and two grandchildren. Mrs. Clever was active in local and county 4-H work and Girl scouts. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Theodore J. PAINTER, 79, of Saltsburg RD 3, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1982, at the Latrobe Hospital. A daughter of James and Nora (Beamer) Stuchel, she was born April 13, 1903, at Vandegrift. Surviving are her husband, John A. Painter; five sons, William, Kenneth and Dean, all at home, Gene of Avonmore and James of Iselin; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Lukehart of Blairsville, Mrs. Evelyn Walko of Indiana, Mrs. Jane Sorbin of Blairsville RD and Mrs. Nancy Lombardi of Saltsburg RD 2; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Blair Stuchel of Rhode Island and James Stuchel of Blairsville; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Aber of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Louis Hosak of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Gladys Piper and Ruth Stuchel, both of Blairsville, and Mrs. Dorothy Clark of Florida. Interment will be in the Edgewood Cemetery. _____ PAINTER, Aliene Catherine (CESNA), 1981 ALIENE CATHERINE PAINTER, 80, of Glen Campbell RD 1, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1981, at the Blose-McGregor Health Care Center, Punxsutawney. A daughter of George W. and Laura B. Ginter Cesna, she was born Jan. 25, 1901, in Glen Campbell RD 1. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church of Smithport, and lived all her life in this area. Surviving are two sons and a daughter: Theodore W. Painter, Rossiter RD 1; Richard Painter, Baden; Mrs. Joseph (Joyce) Myers, Meadville; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a step-sister, Olive Elkin, Kittanning. She was preceded in death on Oct. 11, 1975, by her husband Darrell V. Painter, whom she married March 30, 1921; a son James, and two granddaughters. PAINTER, 74, of Rossiter RD 1, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 1984, in the Punxsutawney Area Hospital. A daughter of Scott and Maude Brady Hill, she was born July 8, 1910, at Smithport, Banks Township. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Wesleyan Church, Punxsutawney and the Rossiter Senior Citizens. She had been a resident of the Punxsutawney area for most of her life and formerly lived in Sagamore and Lockport, N.Y. Surviving are her husband, Charles R. Painter; a son, Charles R. Painter Jr. of Hudson, Fla.; three sisters: Mrs. Clair (Avaneil) Wadding of Titusville, Fla., Mrs. James (Margaret) Timblin of Rossiter RD 1, and Mrs. Roy (Almeda) Harkleroad of Rural Valley; two brothers, James Hill of Dayton RD 1 and Wendell Hill of Indiana; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Sara Cessna; three brothers: George, Ernest and Maxwell Hill. Interment will be in Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter RD 1. _____ PAINTER, Betty Elaine, 1940 RITES TOMORROW FOR SCHOOLGIRL KILLED AT GRADE CROSSING Funeral services for Betty Elaine Painter, 10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Painter of Indiana RD 4, who was badly injured when run over by a train Tuesday evening, will be conducted tomorrow. Services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Robinson Funeral Home in Indiana, with interment to be made in Oakland Cemetery. Indiana County Coroner Edward L. Fleming, who conducted an investigation into the fatality said yesterday that the crew of the Pennsylvania Railroad freight train which struck the girl were unaware of the accident. He said he had learned that the girl was playing ball with her brother Robert, 9, and a neighbor boy, Junior Brown, 10; that the boys crossed the tracks in safety, not missing the girl until after the train passed. An investigation also was under way by Sergeant K. D. Davies of the Pennsylvania Railroad police force. Coroner Fleming said that he would investigate further before determining whether or not to summon an inquest. The child is survived by her parents and these brothers and sisters: Arthur Painter and Mrs. Ralph Sexton, both of White Township, Glenn Jr., Robert and Maxine, all at home. She also is survived by her maternal grandfather, David Hill of White Township. _____ PAINTER, Charles R., 1987 CHARLES R. PAINTER, 71, Rossiter RD 1, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1987, in the Punxsutawney Area Hospital. A son of Philip and Matilda Spencer Painter, he was born May 1, 1916, in Canoe Township. A retired coal miner and employee of Bell Aircraft Corp., he had lived in the Rossiter area most of his life, and formerly resided in Sagamore and Lockport, N.Y. Surviving are a son, Charles R. Jr., Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother: Mrs. Rhoda Enterline, Sandy Lake; Mrs. Rose Spicher, Ebensburg, Sam, Gohan, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arveda D. Hill Painter in 1984; a sister, Mrs. Ann Pierce; brothers Floyd, Boyd, Harry, Harland and Oran. Friends are being received in the Wayne W. Jerry Lambeth will officiate with interment in the Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter, RD 1. _____ PAINTER, Chester Levan, 1940 March 13, 1940 CHESTER LEVAN PAINTER Of 128 East Bell avenue, a retired gang foreman of the Fourth street shops, Pennsylvania railroad, died at his home at 5:10 o'clock, March 13, 1940, after a long illness. He was born in Altoona on Aug. 22, 1882, a son of Henry and Margaret (Anderson) Painter, and married Miss Harriet Auker on July 30, 1931. He was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, three nephews and one niece, Joseph Counsel of Philadelphia, Gordon Counsel of Hershey, Donald Barley of Huntingdon and a niece in Texas. Mr. Painter was a member of the Christian and Missionary alliance church of the city. Friends may call at the Lafferty funeral home after 6 o'clock this evening. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. _____ PAINTER, Donald L., 1982 DONALD L. PAINTER, 41, of M.R. 1 Saltsburg, Conemaugh Township, died Saturday, July 10, 1982, at his home of an apparent stroke. A son of Emil V. Painter and Mary A. (Miller) Painter, he was born Jan. 23, 1941, at Elders Ridge. Mr. Painter was employed by the R. W. Shoemaker Co. of Millvale as a mechanic. He had been a resident of Apollo and Vandergrift most of his life, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Surviving are his mother, Vandergrift, a daughter, Deborah Lynn Painter, at home; three sons: Mark A., Brian E., and Kevin E., all of San Angelo, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Donna) Rumbaugh, Leechburg; two brothers: Clarence, Apollo, and Ralph, Leechburg. Second St., Apollo, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. _____ PAINTER, Donald Lee, 1938 March 10 30-DAY-OLD CHILD FOUND DEAD IN CRIB Acute Indigestion Attributed as Possible Cause of Saltsburg Infant's Death Coroner John Woods of Indiana County attributed probable acute indigestion as the cause of death of 30-day-old Donald Lee Painter of Saltsburg. The child, son of Cecil and Josephine (Ralosky) Painter, was found dead in his crib Thursday. Woods said he learned from the parents that the infant apparently had been in good health when it was last fed Thursday morning. _____ PAINTER, Doris I. (BLYSTONE), 1983 DORIS I. PAINTER, 49, of Rossiter RD 1, died Tuesday, July 19, 1983, in the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. A daughter of Earl and Twila Wells Blystone, she was born April 19, 1935, in Punxsutawney. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church of Juneau and had been a resident of the Rossiter-Punxsutawney area all her life. Surviving are her husband John R. PAINTER, 22, Punxsutawney RD 4, died Friday, April 30, 1982, as the result of injuries suffered in an auto accident in Frostburg. The son of Lloyd and Beverly Chappell Painter, he was born Sept. 18, 1959 in Punxsutawney. He was a resident of Punxsutawney and the area all of his life and was an employer of the Sam W. Jack Drilling Company. Painter, 75, 1841 State Route 103 South, McVeytown, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 1996, at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Altoona, the son of the late Frank and Emma (Benz) Painter. He married Olive Young Sept. 29, 1951, in Altoona. She died June 28, 1972. Mr. Painter retired as owner/operator of Painter Garage, Hollidaysburg. He also worked as a building permit officer for Wayne Township and the borough of Newton Hamilton. He was a graduate of Altoona High School and an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of technician fifth grade. Mr. Painter was a member of the Mount Union Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts. He served on the board of directors at the VFW and was an associate member of the Sheriff's Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. Surviving are a son, Edward; a daughter, Carol A. Wagner of Santa Maria, Calif.; three sisters: Mary Lou Lawruk and Dorothy McGeary, both of Altoona, and Betty Ketrow of Lehighton; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday at Green Lawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, by Pastor Charles Kiloski. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. There will be no viewing. PAINTER, 69, of Rossiter RD 1 (Rochester Mills area) died Saturday, March 28, 1917, at Rochester Mills. Mr. Painter was a member of the American Legion and was a retired auto mechanic. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Ninth Armored Division which received a Unit Commendation from General Omar Bradley. He had been a resident of the Rochester Mills area his entire life. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Haight Painter; two daughters, Mrs. Donna J. McCullough of Heilwood and Sandra P. Painter of Rossiter; three sons: Ernest P. of Rossiter RD 1, Richard S. of Rossiter, and David R. of Rochester Mills; two brothers, Blair of Cherry Tree RD 1 and Alton of Mahaffey; and 14 grandchildren. Mr. Painter retired in 1980 from the Allegheny Lumber Co. in Tarentum. Mr. Painter was employed as branch manager for Globe Security Systems, Elmira. He was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Altoona, the son of Winfield and Lola (Shellenberger) Painter, and May 5, 1955, in Altoona, married Edna Hess. JACOB FINK PAINTER, 95, of 207 Poplar St., Dayton, died Friday, March 1, 1985, in the V. A. Medical Center at Butler. A son of Wesley and Eliza Gressen Painter, he was born Sept. 15, 1889, at Harrison City. Rev. Painter was Pastor Emeritus of the Belknap Charge of the United Church of Christ where he served as pastor for many years. He was a past member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in France during World War I. A retired minister, Rev. Painter of Ashland, Ohio; two stepsons; three-step-daughters; a number of nieces and nephews, five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. "Cub," 1984 JOHN C. (CUB) PAINTER, 35, Rossiter RD 1 (Banks Township) died Monday, April 30, 1984, near his home as the result of an accidental shooting. Born Nov. 19, 1948, in Clymer, he was the son of Ernest and Dorothy Haight Painter. Mr. Painter was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of the Glen Campbell American Legion and the Indiana County DAV, and was a lifelong resident of the Rochester Mills and Rossiter areas. Surviving are his wife, Marian J. Fisher Painter; a daughter, Ginger B. Painter, at home; his parents, Rochester Mills RD 1; two sisters: Mrs. Donna J. McCullough, Heilwood, and Ms. Sandra P. She was born June 23, 1902, in Altoona, a daughter of John and Lulu (Glunt) Shellenberger, and on Oct. 13, 1933, in Altoona, married Winfield Scott Painter, who died Oct. 27, 1961. He was born in Altoona Nov. 16, 1897, a son of Frank and Emma (Woods) Painter. Surviving are a brother, Russell,, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Homer City and the church missionary group. She was formerly employed at the Indiana Hospital and also the Cameron Manor Rest Home, retiring in 1976. Interment will follow in Rowley Cemetery, Hillsdale. _____ PAINTER, Robert, 1945 Former Local Man Is Killed Robert Painter, 40, of Manor, former resident of Johnstown and husband of the former Helen Ream of Johnstown, died Friday evening while en route to the Braddock Hospital as a result of injuries sustained while at work on the interworks railroad of the Westinghouse Electric Co., Trafford. The man was badly crushed when he was caught between two box cars. He was employed as a brakeman on the interworks railroad. Mr. Painter worked for the Cupp Stores here for a period of about one year prior to locating in Manor. His widow is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William L. Ream of this city. Born May 22, 1905, in Wilkinsburg, the deceased was a son of the late George Painter and of Mrs. Sarah (Young) Painter. Besides his widow and his mother, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Walter Eisman, Manor, and three sisters and a brother - Mrs. Margaret Rush, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Sarah Brown, Wilkinsburg; Miss Ellamae, Manor, and Cpl. Belle Gates of 2728 Fifth avenue, Altoona, died last Monday, Dec. 10, while visiting relatives at Scottdale, Pa. Death was caused by bronchial asthma. She was born at Spruce Creek, Huntingdon county on April 14, 1860, a daughter of ____ W. and Sara A. _____, both deceased, former residents of Everett. Her father resided for a number of years at Tatesville and was a prominent Methodist minister in the Everett section for a number of years. In July, 1881, she was united in marriage with Joseph T. Painter, who preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Edmund W. Painter of Pittsburgh, and one sister, Mrs. Nellie T. Baughman of Royal Oak, Mich. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Methodist church and an ardent worker in the Women's Christian Temperance union. Funeral services were held at the home of George W. Gordon in Scottdale on Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock, Rev. R. P. Andrews officiating, assisted by Rev. J. W. Whitmore. The body was taken to Everett on Wednesday morning and brief services were held at the Everett cemetery, at which Rev. Hammond of Hopewell assisted. PAINTER Mr. Painter, 62, of 1009 Logan Ave., died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 1989, at his home, following an extended illness. Mr. Painter retired as a truck driver for the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind in 1980, after five years' service. He was previously employed as a laborer for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
