He was born Feb. 8, 1891, in Altoona, a son of John and (Hackett) Palmer, and married Myrtle Smith on April 14, 1915. Surviving are his wife and four children, Jack of Pittsburgh, Sheldon of Duncansville, Mrs. Betty Brown of Berlin, N.J., and Mrs. Shirley Shugar of Levittown; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Palmer was known as Popeye. He was employed by the PRR as a conductor, working in Altoona until 1941. From 1941 he worked as a conductor at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. He worked there until his retirement in 1959, then moved to Florida. He was a member of the Second Avenue United Brethren Church. The body will be returned to Altoona.
