Michael Parker, one of Snyder township’s oldest and highly esteemed citizens, passed away on April 26 at 8:35 o’clock at his home near Bald Eagle, attaining the ripe old age of 92 years. An exhaustion of vitality naturally consequent to his advanced years is assigned as the cause of his passing. Born in town of Roscomon, county Roscomon, Ireland, in 1823, deceased was a true lover of the Emerald Isle and his fervent wish was that he would some day visit his beloved home in his native land. Coming to America in 1849, Tyrone the present thriving town had then, but one house. He located near Warrior’s Mark, from which place he came to Bald Eagle, following the honorable pursuit of farming until he retired a few years ago. His wife, whose maiden name was Miss Catharine Campbell, also a daughter preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Matthew’s Catholic church, of which he was a faithful member, he was chosen sponsor by Rev. Father Rosenteel, for one of its beautiful chimes at the time of their erection. Mass of requiem was offered by Rev. Father Looney who spoke tenderly of his faithful and beautiful life. The following children survive to mourn a kind and loving father: Mary, John, Ellen, Margaret and Elizabeth; also three grandsons, Robert Kearns, of Summerhill; Ralph and Raymond at home.
