Parkes, 71, of Bellemeade Drive, Altoona, formerly of Tyrone, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She was born September 29, 1931 in Port Matilda, a daughter of the late Florence M. Long. On May 24, 1958 at the Columbia Avenue Methodist Church, Tyrone, she married David J. Parkes, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1992. Surviving is a sister Faye L. Steele and close friends Lois and Diane Summers of Altoona. Mrs. Parkes was a former member of the Columbia Avenue Methodist Church where she belonged to the choir and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Tyrone Chapter No. 288 and served as Worthy Matron from 1973-74, was District Deputy Grand Matron of District 9-A from 1983-84, served as Grand Representative of Georgia and New Hampshire and was a Special Friend of the Most Worthy Grand Matron. She had been a dental assistant for Dr. Richard W. Stever, Tyrone before her marriage. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Ray Brinson and Rev. Norman Huff officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received today from 6-9 p.m. at the Feller Memorial Home where there will be Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made tot he Church of the Good Shepherd Building Fund, 1650 Clay Avenue, Tyrone, Pa. 16686 or to the Diabetes Fund, c/o/ OES Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania, 3544 N.
