Paul of 411 Spruce avenue, retired foreman of the Altoona works tin shop, died at his home at 4.20 o'clock yesterday afternoon after an extended illness. Mr. Paul was an active and prominent member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church, serving as a deacon and as an elder, a member of the men's Bible class and for many years superintendent of the Sunday school. He was also a member of Hiram lodge, No. 616, F. & A. M., of the Harrisburg consistory, Jaffa Shrine, Knights Templar, No. 10,, and the M. B. A. He was born in Altoona on Feb. 14, 1873, a son of Gottlieb and Catherine (Gardner) Paul and early in life learned the tinsmith trade by the Eby & Son firm. He entered the Pennsylvania railroad service on April 1, 1895, going to the smith shop, and then later to the tin shop, He was advanced to gang foreman in 1921. He was retired in August, 1936, serving for thirty-one years. He was married Sept. 20, 1893 in Altoona to Miss Savannah B. Metzgar, who survived together with two daughters and one son, Mrs. Ruth Tomlinson of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Ethel Hileman of Martinsburg and Raymond H. Paul of the city; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Geig of the city. Friends are being received at the home. Altoona Mirror, August 17, 1942 PAUL - Funeral services for William R. Paul, of 411 Spruce avenue, will be held from the Christ Evangelical and Reformed chruch in charge of the Rev. Francis R. Casselman, pastor of the church, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
