Payne, ago 90, of 1700 Hamilton Avenue, Tyrone and a guest at Epworth Manor, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 8:20 a.m. at the Manor. He was born December 17, 1916 in Philadelphia, the son of Joseph F. and Sarah Judge Payne. On January 29, 1946 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church he was married to Sarah Burns, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles Joseph and wife Alicia of Spotsylvania, VA and Philip Anthony and wife Carol of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Timothy Charles, Mary Alicia, Erin Lynn Payne and Aileen Marie Payne; two nephews, Joseph Payne of TN and Thomas Laughlin of Philadelphia. He was the last of his immediate family. He had the license plate on his car of P -Team representing the Payne team consisting of grandchildren Tim, Erin, Aileen, and Molly. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Gregory Council No. 1218, a Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop Garvey Assembly, Altoona. He was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Philadelphia in 1935 and retired in 1981 from Penn State University as night supervisor of Physical Plant after thirteen years service. He had previously been employed at J. C. Yenter Construction Co. and Juniata Packing Co. He was a veteran of service in World War II serving on a merchant ship with the Merchant Marines. A funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph T. Orr as celebrant. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a recitation of the rosary on Monday evening.
