Robert E. Pearce of 714 Seventh avenue, Juniata, who was killed in action Nov. 15, 1944, in France, will arrive in Altoona tomorrow evening at 6.10 o'clock, from the Philadelphia army depot. Pvt. Pearce's body was among those recently returned from the European theatre aboard the transport U.S.S. Oglethorpe. Interment will be made Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the cemetery at Ansonville, Pa., from the Korns funeral home, Juniata. Pvt. Pearce was born in Madera May 13. 1923, a son of the late Russell and Elizabeth (Nelson) Pear. He moved to Altoona with his family when he was 2 years old, attending the local schools and graduating front Altoona High school in the class of 1941. He entered the service Jan. 25, 1943, training first at Aberdeen, Md., in the ordnance branch, but later was selected for specialized training, studying at Virginia Polytechnic institute and then at William and Mary college. Pvt. Pearce was within a few weeks of completing his basic engineer studies at the latter institution when the college program was abandoned. Transfering to the infantry, he trained at Indiantown Gap, going overseas from a camp in the New England states Aug. 11, 1944. Prior to entering the service Pvt. Pearce was employed as a machinist apprentice in the Juniata shops, Pennsylvania railroad, He was a member of the Juniata Presbyterian church. He is survived only by his mother.
