Presumably he was riding on a freight train and it is believed that he fell off and landed under the wheels of the passenger train on the adjoining tracks. His body was cut in twain. Pekar's body was found lying along the main line at 7.44 o'clock by H. C. Good, Pennsy wreckmaster, and it was taken to a morgue in Johnstown to await disposition. Pekar, or Baker as he was known here, was before Mayor Rhodes in police court yesterday afternoon, having been arrested during the week-end on the charge of intoxication. He told the mayor that he had procured a job and asked that he be let off, so the mayor acceded to his request and gave him two hours to leave the city. It is apparent that the man complied with the understanding thus reached. Pekar had hired as a trackman in the Middle division service on Feb. 16, but he left the service four days later. In registering for selective service he had used the name of Baker and he had his service card in his pockets when he met death. He was born at Bitumen, Clinton county, on March 21, 1913, a son of John and Catherine (Palcho) Pekar, and had resided in Altoona for the past eighteen years. Surviving are his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Margaret Fye of Renovo, George of Detroit, Mich., John of Altoona, Edward of Juniata, Paul, in the army at Camp Tyson, Tenn., and Rose Marie of the city. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church. He had resided with members of his family, who formerly resided at 601 Eighth avenue. PEKAR - Funeral services for Anthony E. Pekar of 2108 Tenth avenue, will be held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock at Mount Carmel Catholic church with requiem mass. Interment in Calvary cemetery. Friends are being received at N. A. Stevens' mortuary. Altoona Mirror, March 16, 1943
