PELTER Died this morning (January 13, 1945) at 7:05 o'clock at his home at 702 North Second Street, Bellwood, death following an extended illness attributed to a complication of ailments. He was a son of James I. and Mary (Walker) Pelter and was born at Bareville, Mifflin County, July 22, 1871. He was united in marriage with Bertha M. Smith, who survives, with these children: George C., of Tyrone, Van, of Altoona, Howard E. and Marion J., both of Bellwood, Cpl. Russell Pelter, in Belgium with the United States army, Mrs. William Burch of Altoona, Mrs. Charles Amos of Bellwood, Mrs. D. F. DeLap of Hanover and Miss Marguerite Pelter, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Steele of Lewistown and Mrs. Harry Fike of Three Springs. He was a member of the Bellwood Methodist church, the M. B. A. association and of the B. of L. F. and E. Friends will be received at the home after noon on Sunday. Interment in Logan Valley cemetery. Altoona Mirror, January 13, 1945 _____ BERTHA MAY PELTER Of 702 North Second street, Bellwood, died at her home at 7:30 last evening (July 26, 1953) after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 3, 1873, at Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Sarah (Ross) Smith and married Albert Pelter, who died Jan. 13, 1945. She was a member of the Methodist church of Bellwood. Surviving are the following children, Marguerite J., Mrs. Maude Amos, Howard E. and Marion J. of Bellwood, Van A. and Thelma Burch of Altoona, George C. of Tyrone, and Glenn of Patton, one brother, Marion W. Smith of Carlisle, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening. PELTER - Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha May Pelter of 702 North Second street, Bellwood, will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the home, in charge of Rev. H. Thaddeus Covert and Rev. E. R. PELTER Of 402 Park Ave., Tyrone, died at his home at 9:45 p.m. yesterday, (January 16, 1963), following an extended illness. He was born in Bellwood Aug. 7, 1893, a son of Albert L. and Bertha M. (Smith) Pelter, and was twice married, in 1918 to Estella Rightnour, who died in 1934, and to Viola Price on June 22, 1939. She survives, along with these brothers and sisters: Van of Altoona, Howard, Marion, and Glenn of Bellwood, Mrs. Thelma Burch of Altoona, Miss Marguerite and Mrs. Maud Amos of Bellwood and Mrs. Helen DeLap of Hanover. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Tyrone, American Legion, Jaffa Shrine Temple, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Tyrone Lodge, F&AM of which he was past master. He had been employed as an automotive mechanic for 45 years, retiring in 1959, and was a veteran or World War I. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone after 7 p.m. today. Interment in Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Altoona Mirror, January 17, 1963 _____ VAN A. PELTER, 81, of 211 10th St., died at 9:30 Saturday, Feb. 23, 1980, in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Mr. Pelter retired as a machinist from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1963, after 49 years' service. He was born April 7, 1898, in Bellwood, the son of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter, and Sept. 13, 1937, in Altoona, married Susan J. Alwine, who died Mat 20, 1954. Surviving are six children, Van A. Jr. of Springfield, Mass., John C. of Passaic, N. J., William L. of Timonium, Md., George C. and Mrs. Mary E. Stehley of Liverpool, and Wayne T. of Nevada Ohio; 13 grandchildren and six brothers and sisters, Howard E., Marion J., Marguerite J. and Mrs. Maude Amos of Bellwood and Mrs. Thelma Burch and Mrs. Helen DeLap of Altoona. Mr. Pelter was a member of the International Association of Machinists. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Charles W. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Interment in Logan Valley cemetery. Altoona Mirror, February 25, 1980 _____ THELMA E. BURCH. Mrs. Burch, 82, of Altoona died at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 1983, in her residence. She was born Nov. 12, 1900, in Bellwood, the daughter of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter, and June 24, 1925, in Bellwood, married William H. Burch, who died April 24, 1956. Surviving are a son, William A. of North Versailles; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and three sisters; Howard E., Marguerite J. and Mrs. Maude Amos of Bellwood and Mrs. Helen DeLap of Altoona. Mrs. Burch was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Altoona Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and Jordan White Shrine. Altoona Mirror, January 25, 1983 _____ MARGUERITE J. PELTER. Miss Pelter, 80, of 702 N. 2nd St., Bellwood, died unexpectedly at 7:30 a.m. today, May 3, 1983, in her home. Miss Pelter had been a schoolteacher. She was born Jan. 28, 1903, in Bellwood, the daughter of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter. Surviving are a brother and two sisters: Howard E. and Mrs. Maude Amos of Bellwood and Mrs. Helen DeLap of Altoona, and several nieces and nephews, including William E. Burch and Jeffrey T. Burch of Bellwood, who were raised in the home. Miss Pelter was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Jon C. Mrs. Amos, 88, of Brick, N.J., formerly of Bellwood, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 1994, at Ocean County Hospital and Medical Center, Brick, following an extended illness. She was born Feb. 13, 1905, in Altoona, the daughter of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter. She married Charles T. Amos on June 6, 1941, in Altoona. He died Oct. 3, 1977. Surviving are a son, George D. of Point Pleasant, N.J.; two nephews: William E. Burch and Jeffery T. Burch, who were raised in the home, and three grandchildren. Mrs. Amos was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Mr. Pelter, 81, of 434 N. 3rd St., Bellwood, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 1988, at Tyrone Hospital. Mr. Pelter retired as a welder from the J.E. Williamson Machine Shop, Bellwood, in August 1971, after 20 years' service. He was born March 9, 1907, in Bellwood, the son of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter, and May 19, 1932, in Bellwood, married Almeda M. Craine. Surviving are his wife, a son, Earl H. of Warriors Mark and a grandson, Dr. Michael W. Pelter of Fort Collins, Colo. Also surviving is a sister, Maude G. Amos of Point Pleasant, N.J. Mr. Pelter was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Antis Township. He was a member and past master of Tyrone Lodge F&AM, a member of the Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Shrine and the oldest member of the Excelsior Fire Company, Bellwood. DELAP. Mrs. DeLap, 78, of Altoona died at 1:25 a.m. today, July 1, 1985, in Epworth Manor, Tyrone, after an extended illness. Mrs. DeLap retired as a registered nurse and previously worked at the Hanover General Hospital. She was born June 24, 1907, in Bellwood, the daughter of Albert L. and Bertha (Smith) Pelter, and marries Dyson F. DeLap, who died Jan. 26, 1961. Surviving are a brother and a sister: Howard E. and Maude Amos of Bellwood. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. "Bill" Pelter, 72, of 703 No. Second St., Bellwood, died Friday, March 19, 1982 at 9:35 p.m. at the Valley View Home, Altoona. He was born January 12, 1910 in Bellwood, the son of Albert L. and Bertha Smith Pelter. He was married to Dorothy Marie Cherry. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter, James R. Pelter, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Jean M. Putt, of Cleveland, Ohio. Six grandchildren, one brother and four sisters also survive, Howard E., Marguerite J., and Mrs. Maude Amos, all of Bellwood, and Mrs. Thelma Burch and Mrs. Helen DeLap, both of Altoona. He was a member of the Logan Valley Baptist Church and retired as a machinist from the Pennsylvania Railroad. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, with the Rev. Arthur Freet, pastor of the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Altoona Mirror, March 20, 1982 _____ GLENN R. PELTER, Box 239, Tyrone RD 2, died Saturday, June 18, 1977, at 8:30 p.m., unexpectedly, at his home. He was born at Bellwood, Dec. 20, 1912, a son of Albert L. and Bertha Smith Pelter. He was married to Laura A. Robertson on Oct. 13, 1945, at Bellwood. Surviving are the widow, four sons and daughters, Gary Q. Pelter, of Eugene, Ore.; Glenn R. of Tyrone RD 2; Marguerite E. Pelter, of Hollidaysburg, and Diane L. Pelter, of Spanaway, Wash.; also two grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters: Howard E. Pelter, Marion J. Pelter, Miss Marguerite J. Pelter, Mrs. Maude Amos, all of Bellwood; Van A. Pelter, Mrs. Selma Burch and Mrs. Helen DeLap, all of Altoona. He had been a machinist for the Penn Central Railroad, retiring June 11, 1976 with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force stationed in Europe during World War 2. He was a member of the Tyrone Lodge 494 Free & Accepted Masons and was its Past Master. He was a member of the Harrisburg Consistory, the Jaffa Shrine, the Tyrone Shrine Club. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Russin Funeral Home in charge of Pastor Glenn L. Yeckley. Burial will be in Logan Valley Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 9 p.m. today. Masonic service will be at 6:45 p.m. today. [Altoona Mirror, June 27, 1977]
