He was born April 14, 1931 in Altoona, PA, the son of Rev. Charles Benjamin Peters and Rev. Clara Annie Matheison Peters, who are both deceased. Mr. Peters was raised in Tyrone, PA and moved from there to Oak Ridge in August 1954. He was a member of the Assemblies of God Church in Tyrone where his parents ministered. He has attended the First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge for many years. He really enjoyed his family and was very involved with his grandchildren and their many activities. Mr. Peters retired in 1991 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems / Y-12 where he was a General Supervisor. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Ann Stroh in December 2001. He is survived by wife, Shirley Louise Westley Peters. They would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on September 1st; a son, Johnathan Benjamin Peters II and wife Arnetta Hatfield Peters; a daughter, Joanna Louise Fritts and husband David, all of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; son-in-law, Richard Stroh of Maryville, Tenn.; a brother, David Samuel Peters and wife Debra of Federal Way, Wa. Also, four grandchildren, Benjamin Riley Peters, Kerri Rosenberger and husband Jason, all of Oak Ridge, Tenn, and Abraham John Stroh and Sarah Elizabeth Stroh of Maryville, Tenn.; and a great-grandchild, Shelby Anne Rosenberger of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2003 at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, East TN Chapter, 4700 Rutledge Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914.
