PFEIFFER At 12 o'clock noon yesterday John A. Pfeiffer, one of the oldest and best known residents of Logantown, died at the home of his son-in-law, James L. Smelser, 210 Lexington avenue, of valvular heart disease and old age. He had been ailing for several years and for three months has been slowly sinking. Deceased was born May 15, 1812, at Hesigham, Wurttemburg, Germany. He came to this country in 1852 and settled at Hollidaysburg and one year later moved to Logantown. During his residence here he followed the carpenter's trade, but for the past fifteen years had lived a retired life. Since the death of his wife, on March 23, 1887, he has made his home with his children. He was a member of the Lutheran church, and before coming to this country was a member of the German army. He is survived by the following children: J. F., of Roanoke, Va.; C. T., Paul, Mrs. Hannah Smelser, and Mrs. Rachel Rath, of Altoona. The funeral announcements will be made later.
