He was born Dec. 8, 1851, and had resided nearly all his life at Tipton, being a track foreman for the Pennsy until retired because of ill health. He was a member of the Methodist church for many years and a man highly esteemed. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lillian Philips, two children, Harry E. Philips of Tipton, and Mrs. George Taylor at home, and three grandchildren, Francis Burns and George Taylor, jr., at the home, and Luella Philips. Funeral service will be held at the home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, with interment at Charlottesville. Service will be conducted by Rev. F. T. Bell, assisted by Rev. W. A. Dysart.
