PHILO, FORMER RABBI IN CITY, DIES Dr. Isador E. Philo, retired rabbi of Rodef Sholom temple, Youngstown, O., and a former Altoonan who also served the Temple Beth Israel congregation here during several of the World war II years, died in his sleep of a heart ailment at 7.30 o'clock Saturday morning, July 17, at his home in Youngstown. He would have been 75 years old on July 24. Rabbi Philo had been a prominent figure in the religious, civic and community life of Youngstown for some 37 years, serving as rabbi of Rodef Sholom temple from 1911 to 1942. In April he suffered a serious heart attack and was hospitalized until May. Ill health had compelled him to curtail his activities in 1942. He was born in Cardiff, Wales, one of 11 children of Rabbi and Mrs. Solon Solomon Philo. He was the seventh generation on his father's side and the fifth on his mother's side to be a rabbi.
