Phoenix, 69, of Sinking Valley, RD 3, Altoona, died Sunday, January 4, 2004, at 4:16 p.m. at Tyrone Hospital. He was born April 29, 1934, in Holyoke, Mass., a son of Henry G. and Lillian O. (Spencer) Phoenix. On May 2, 1964, in Holyoke, he married Frances V. Saylor. Surviving are his wife, a daughter Lee Ann Patterson and husband Christopher, of Stormstown, three beautiful grandchildren, Ashley Phoenix, Conner Patterson, and Samantha Patterson, all of Stormstown, and a brother, Henry of Ravenna, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a son Robert, on July 7, 2003, and a brother, Fred. Mr. Phoenix owned H. M. Spencer, Inc., in Holyoke, Mass., until his retirement in 1993. He was the third generation in the company which manufactured cylinders used in the paper mills that produced water- marked paper. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a sergeant from 1958 to 1963. He was a member of the Sinking Valley Country Club. After his retirement he moved to Sinking Valley enjoying gardening, golfing, reading and spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Burial will be at Logan Valley Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
