Piper, for the past two years a guest of Old Soldiers Home, Washington, D.C., and a former resident of Tyrone, died Saturday at the home. He was born April 23, 1898, at Concord, a son of John F. and Elizabeth McKim Piper. On Sept. 17, 1924, at Chester, he was married to Sarah H. Budd. She died July 15, 1972. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Lape, of Philipsburg; and Mrs. Marilyn Andrews, of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving, are a brother, Harry E., of Tyrone; and a sister, Mrs. Walter Reed, of Northwood. He was a member of the Tyrone Church of the Good Shepherd, was an army veteran of World War 1, and a member of Howard Gardner Post 281 American Legion and the Anderson-Denny Post 4559, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been a millwright for Westvaco Corporation here, retiring in March 1, 1963, after 44 years of service. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Eugene Steiner. Burial will be in Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 5, 1976
