  L. Garfield Poet, 87, of 2417 16th Ave., formerly engaged in the 
furniture business in the city, died at 4 a.m. yesterday in Altoona 
Hospital, where he was admitted Saturday.
  He was born in Altoona Feb. 14, 1880, a son of Michael and Susan Jane 
(Weaver) Poet. Surviving only are nieces and nephews.
  Mr. Poet was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Mizpah Bible 
Class.
  He and a brother, Robert, in 1905 formed the M. Poet & Sons firm, 
successors to the furniture business their father, Michael, established 
in 1871. Garfield, like his father, was a skilled cabinet-maker.
  Friends will be received in the Replogle Funeral Home from 7 to 9 
p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
