POET [1949 photo] Brief Illness Is Fatal to Melvin K. Poet Melvin K. (Mike) Poet, retired supervisor of the 4th St. blacksmith shop, Pennsylvania Railroad, who resided at 1609 22nd Ave., died at 5.45 p.m. yesterday in the Altoona Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Poet was born in Altoona April 20, 1886, a son of Michael and Susan J. (Weaver) Poet. He was twice married, first to Elizabeth Slick, who preceded him in death, and then to Marie Hart. Mr. Poet was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Knights of Pythias, Independent Order of Foresters and the Retired Men's Association. He retired in 1947 after 43 years of service. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Schucker of Bellwood; a son, Michael of Levittown; two brothers, Garfield and Milton F. of Altoona, and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the N. A. Stevens Mortuary after 7 p.m. today.
