Mr. David Pope, an old and respected citizen of Hollidaysburg, died at his home on Church street, East End, on Sunday night at 11 o'clock. He had been ill for the past year, a sufferer from a dropsical affection, which was the cause of his death. During the days of the canal Mr. Pope was a boatman and in boat and boating affairs he took great interest. He was a carpenter by trade and a skilled mechanic. He constructed a canal boat in miniature, a model of the old line boats and exhibited it at the first reunion of the boatmen and railroad men which was held at this place, and the little craft, so perfect in every detail, attracted a great deal of attention. Mr. Pope, although at an advanced age when the war began, toward its close entered the military service and did such duty as was assigned to him until the close of hostilities. He was between 65 and 70 years of age; was twice married, and is survived by the second wife and eleven children, three of whom, born of the first wife, have reached the age of manhood and are citizens of our town. These are Frank, Howard and William. Eight children remain at home with the mother and widow. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the deceased's late residence at 2 o'clock. Interment in the Presbyterian cemetery. Morning Tribune, Wednesday, October 15, 1890
