PORTA [photo] Well-Known Sixth Ward Resident is Called by Death Charles H. (Carl) Porta of 2824 Sixth avenue, well-known retired blacksmith of the Pennsylvania railroad, died at 10:15 o'clock this morning after an extended illness. Mr. Porta was born in Germany Aug. 1, 1873, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Porta, and came to this country at an early age. He was united in marriage with Miss Barbara Quorin Wolf, who died in 1950. Mr. Porta was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, Holy Name society and the Knights of St. George. Surviving are one son and three daughters, Vincent of Essex, Md., Agnes, at home, Mrs. Marie Trexler of Altoona and Mrs. Catherine Trindel of Hollidaysburg; the following brothers and sisters: Nicholas, Jacob, Herman, Louis and Stephen of Altoona, Anthony of Detroit, Mrs. Mark Smith of New York city, Mrs. Ann Logue of Philadelphia, Mrs. Helen Keller, Mrs. Catherine Burket and Mrs. Rose Schraff of Altoona; 14 grand-children and five great-grandchildren. A son, Karl, preceded him in death. Friends will be received at the N. A. Stevens mortuary after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening.
