Porta, 3804 4th Avenue, South Altoona Is Found Dead in Bed Going to attend church yesterday morning, Mrs. James J. Porta, of 3804 Fourth avenue, South Altoona, left her son George, aged 14 months, in bed and returned home some time later to find the babe had strangled to death. Deputy Coroner C. C. Rothrock, this city, was summoned. He visited the home yesterday afternoon and declared an inquest unnecessary. Before leaving her home, the coroner stated, Mrs. Porta had asked an older son, sleeping in another room to occupy the bed with the slumbering baby. The elder brother failed to hear her and didn't comply. The body of the child was found on the bed, and was still warm. It was prepared for burial by Funeral Director N. A. Stevens. The parents and one brother survive. The child was the son of James J. and Sarah Chirdon Porta, and was born November 8th, 1917. Funeral services will be held tomorrow. Burial in Calvary cemetery at 10 o'clock. Altoona Tribune, Monday, January 20, 1919, page 5
