Mrs. Rachel Potter, wife of John Potter, died yesterday at the residence of her son-in-law, John W. Rohrback, Hollidaysburg, with whom she and her husband have made their home for the last six years. She was a native of this county, having been born at Cove Forge, April 10, 1813, and thus lacked but twelve days of having completed her 76th year. She was united in marriage with John Potter in 1833 and lived happily with him until the time of her death, a period of fifty-six years. She was the mother of six children, all of whom survive her except one son, McKindree, who gave his life in defense of the union, having been killed at the battle of the Wilderness in 1863. The surviving children are: Mrs. Benjamin Updyke, of Eldorado; Mrs. H. C. Beamer, of Olean, N.Y.; J. Wesley Potter, of Elna, this county; Mrs. W. H. McClellan, of this city, and Mrs. J. W. Rohrback, of Hollidaysburg. Mrs. Potter was converted at a camp-meeting below Williamsburg in 1836 and from that time until her death was a faithful and devout member of the Methodist Episcopal church. The writer made her acquaintance many years ago when he was quite a small boy, and he is sure he voices the sentiments of all who knew her when he says that she adorned the religion which she professed. Her children, her aged husband, her friends - and all who knew her were her friends - will indeed mourn that she has been taken from them, but they know that she has entered into rest. The remains were taken to Williamsburg for interment. Altoona Tribune, April 4, 1889
