At half past 8 Wednesday evening Mrs. Sarah Potter, widow of the late John J. Potter, died at the residence of Mr. Aaron Forney, (her brother) No. 1305 Seventh avenue, after a lingering illness. The cause of death was consumption, and she had been a sufferer from it for about three years. Some six weeks ago she came from her daughter's, Mrs. Charles Herrberg, Columbus, Ohio, to see her other daughter, Mrs. R. S. Statler, who was preparing to go west to live. After the departure of this daughter the mother was taken seriously ill and for four weeks previous to her death was confined to her bed. Mrs. Herrberg and Mrs. Kate Cam, a sister of the deceased, administered to her wants and was present when she died, as was also her son, Mr. Alonzo J. Potter. Mrs. Potter was a member of the Lutheran church, was a devout Christian woman, and was fully prepared to die. The deceased was born near St. Clairsville, Bedford county, and was in her 54th year. Her maiden name was Sarah Forney. In 1855 she was married to Mr. John J. Potter and with him came to Altoona in 1862. On August 10, 1873, her husband died, and in the year 1880 Mrs. Potter moved to Harrisburg, going to Philadelphia the following year, where she resided until about two years ago when she went to Ohio to make her home with her daughter. Her surviving children are: Alonzo J. Potter, of Altoona; Ada, wife of Mr. Charles Herrberg, of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary, wife of Mr. R. S. Statler, of Wichita, Kansas.
