Powers. MARGARET A. (YINGLING) POWERS, 1968 Centenarian Died at Home of Daughter Mrs. Margaret A. Powers, the oldest member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellwood, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Moore of Canton Ohio, at 4 a.m. yesterday. The widow of William H. Powers, she was born in Blue Knob Dec. 20, 1867, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Glass) Yingling and was married in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry in 1889. She is survived by five children: Mrs. Nellie Weld of Steubenville, Ohio, William of Santa Ann, California, Lawrence and Mrs. Mary Moore, with whom she resided the past few years, both of Canton Ohio and Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Bowers of north Bellwood, died at 9 o'clock this morning at the family home, suffering from a complication of diseases. He was ill for some time. He was an engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad company and was 64 years of age, being born on Dec 2, 1867 . He was married on Sept 12, 1890 to Miss Margaret Yingling, who survives with the following children: John Bowers, Haiwait, Mrs. A. R. Weld and Mrs. O. B. Moore both of Brownsville, William Bowers of South Bend, Ind., Cornelius, Charles, Lawrence, Raymond and Miss Agnes Bowers, all of Bellwood. Surviving also are a brother, L. C. Bowers of Emporium and two sisters, Mrs. D. P. Ryan of Boston and Mrs. Ellen Hallern of Nova Scotia, together with four grandchildren. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the B.P.O.E. both of Tyrone and the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellwood. Interment in Logan Valley cemetery. The following obituaries appear in birth order of their children and include, where possible, the obituaries of their spouses. 1. JOHN POWERS, 1941 John Powers, well known resident of Antis township, residing on North Tuckahoe street, just outside the Bellwood borough limits, was found dead this morning about 10:30 o'clock on the kitchen floor at the home of his mother, with whom he resided. A physician who was called said death was due to a heart ailment and that he probably had been dead about two hours. Mr. Powers was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Powers, the father being deceased, and was about 50 years of age. He is survived by his mother and a number of brothers and sisters. Military services will be held at the grave, with interment in the Bellwood cemetery. (9-4-1941) Altoona Mirror, September 4, 1941 _______________________________________________ 2. MARTHA ELLEN (POWERS) WELD, 1969 Martha Ellen Weld of Steubenville Ohio, former Bellwood resident, died Tuesday, April 15, 1969, after a lengthy illness. Born in Bellwood, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Powers. Surviving are her husband, Arthur, three children: William of Phoenix Ariz., Robert of Steubenville and Mae of Buffalo, NY and four brothers and sisters: William of Santa Anita, Calif., Mary Moore and Lawrence of Canton Ohio and Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood. Mrs. Weld was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Steubenville, interment will be made in Steubenville. Altoona Mirror, April 15, 1969 _______________________________________________ 3. WILLIAM POWERS, 1969 William Powers, aged 73, of Santa Ana Calif. and former Bellwood resident, died at 7:30 yesterday, Aug 22, 1969. He was the son of William and Margaret (Yingling) Powers. Surviving are his wife, four children, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Mary Moore of Canton OH, Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood and Lawrence of Canton. Interment will be made in Santa Ana. Moore, 84, a guest of Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Canton Oh, died 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sep 3, 1982. Mrs. Moore had taught at the Roots Primary School. She was born Nov 3, 1897, in Bellwood, the daughter of William H. and Margaret (Yingling) Powers and married Orlando B. Moore, who died Oct 2, 1971. Surviving are a brother and sister, Lawrence V. of Canton and Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood. and 13 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Bellwood. POWERS, 1936 BELLWOOD MAN IS KILLED IN CRASH Cornelius B. Powers, aged 36, meets instant death when his car overturns on Blandburg Road. Cornelius B. Powers, aged 36, of Bellwood met with instant death when he was crushed under his automobile sideswiping another machine on highway route no. 865 leading from Bellwood to Blandburg. The accident happened in Cambria county a short distance beyond the Blair county line. Powers suffered a fractured skull and broken neck....... Henry Porto, aged 24, of Blandburg was the driver of the other car. He told police that he and Powers were both traveling north when Powers tried to pass him and hit the left front fender of the Porto car...... Cornelius Bernard Powers was born on March 1, 1900 in Bellwood, a son of William H. (deceased) and Mrs. Margaret Powers. He was married in this city on July 29, 1930 to Amelia Steinbugl, who survives, along with his mother and the following brothers and sisters; John E. of San Francisco, William E. of South Bend Ind. Lawrence V. of Tipton, Charles L. and Raymond L. of Bellwood, Mrs. Nellie Weld of Steubenville O., Mrs. Mary Moore of Brownsville, PA and Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood. He was active in Bellwood politics and was founder and past president of the Bellwood Democratic club. He was a Democratic candidate for Blair county commissioner last year. At a meeting Tuesday night he also was elected treasurer of the Blair county Federation of Democratic Clubs. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Bellwood, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles and the railroad relief. He was employed as a machinist in the Juniata shops. Interment will be made in Logan Valley cemetery Bellwood. Altoona Mirror, August 19, 1936 AMELIA A. (STEINBUGL) POWERS, 1992 Amelia A. Powers, 89, of Hillview Care Center, formerly of Green avenue tower, died 2 a.m. today Feb 27, 1992, at the center, following an extended illness. Known as Mille, she was born April 14, 1902, in Bavaria, Germany, the daughter of Alois and Mary (Schultz) Steinbugl. She married Cornelius Powers, he died Aug 19, 1936. Surviving are two brothers: Louis and Frank of Altoona and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Powers was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery. McDermott, 526 Orchard street Bellwood, at 6 o'clock last evening. He was born on March 2, 1902, a son of William and Margaret (Yingling) Powers. Surviving are his mother and the following brothers and sisters: John of Bellwood, William of South Bend, Ind., Lawrence of Tipton, Raymond of Canton OH, Mrs. A. R. Weld of Steubenville, OH, Mrs. O. B. Moore of Brownsville and Mrs. McDermott. Mr. Powers was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellwood, The Altar Society, and of the Elks in Pittsburgh. Interment in Bellwood. Powers, 79, of Canton Ohio, formerly of Bellwood, died Sunday April 1, 1984, in the Limken Medical Center, Canton. He was born in Bellwood, the son of William H. and Margaret (Yingling) Powers and married Dorothy Johnson, who died in 1974. Surviving are a son, Paul V. of Winston-Salem N.C. and two grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Agnes McDermott of Bellwood. Interment was made in Canton. Altoona Mirror, April 6, 1984 DOROTHY JOHNSON POWERS, 1974 Dorothy Johnson Powers, of Canton Ohio and formerly of Tipton, died unexpectedly yesterday, May 10, 1974, at her home. (POWERS) MCDERMOTT, 1993 Agnes P. McDermott, 85, of 526 Orchard St. Bellwood, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 2, 1993 at Altoona Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. McDermott retired as a teacher in 1970 from Tyrone Area School District following 25 years service and formerly taught in Bellwood-Antis School District. She was born Feb 9, 1907 in Bellwood, the daughter of William H. and Margaret (Yingling) Powers. She married Paul J. McDermott on June 18, 1934 in Bellwood. Surviving are her husband, a son, Patrick J. of Belle Meade, N.J. and four grandchildren. Mrs. McDermott was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellwood, where she was a member of the Women's Guild. She was a 1925 graduate of Antis Township High School, a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College and attended Penn State University. Interment in Calvary Mausoleum. She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters: John, William, Cornelius, Charles, Lawrence, and Raymond Powers, Nellie Weld and Mary Moore. Altoona Mirror, February 2 & 3, 1993 PAUL J. MCDERMOTT, 1996 Paul J. McDermott, 90, 526 Orchard St. Bellwood, died Thursday morning, Aug 8, 1996 at Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg. He was born March 18, 1906, in Cresson, the son of Alonzo and Margaret (Weismulier) McDermott. He married Agnes P. Powers June 18, 1934 in Bellwood. She died Feb 2, 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellwood. He retired as an accountant from Powell Coal Co. Blandburg, with more than 30 years of service. Surviving are a son, Patrick J. of Bell Mead N.J., a brother Francis of Cumberland Md.; two sisters, Martha Harris and Harriet Plisinski, both of Altoona and four grandchildren. Entombment in Calvary Mausoleum, Altoona. Altoona Mirror, August 9, 1996 _______________________________________________ 9. RAYMOND L. POWERS, 1964 Raymond L. Powers of 703 11th St. N.W. Canton Ohio, formerly of Tuckahoe St. Bellwood, died at 9:10 Tuesday after having been sick since December. He was a son of William H. and Margaret (Yingling) Powers and married Evelyn Isenberg. Surviving are his wife, four children: Patricia, Rory, Terry and Pamela and his mother and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Nellie Weld of Steubenville, Mrs. Mary Moore of Brownsville, Mrs. Agnes McDermott of Bellwood, William of Santa Ana, Calif., and Lawrence of Canton Ohio. He was employed by Republic Steel in Canton and was a paratrooper veteran of World War II. Interment was made in Canton today with military honors. Altoona Mirror, April 10, 1964
