PRIEST DEAD Passed Away This Morning at His Home at Eighteenth Street. John H. Priest died at his home, 834 Eighteenth street, at 10.20 o'clock this morning. He had been ill a long time, not having been able to work since last October. Afflicted with dropsy and fatty degeneration of the heart, his condition was several times very serious, but recently he had seemed greatly improved and he was able to be outdoors. He did not complain of feeling badly this morning, but while sleeping he was seized with a choking spell and in a few minutes thereafter expired. John H. Priest was born at Harrisburg June 9, 1846, and was therefore 53 years, 9 months and 3 days. He was a locomotive engineer and when he was transferred from the middle division to the Tyrone division, P.R.R., about 1882, he came to Tyrone to reside. Later he became a resident of Phillipsburg, but he returned with his family to Tyrone about thirteen years ago, remaining here ever since. The deceased was united in marriage at Houtzdale October 13, 1883, to Melvina S. Woomer, who survives him, together with two sons, John Priest, Jr. and Louis F. Priest. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hettie Vanarsdale, of Harrisburg, and William Priest, of Rockville. As a very young man Mr. Priest made a good record as a soldier for the Union, serving in the Thirty third U. S. Infantry regiment from February 9, 1864 to February 9, 1867, when he was honorably discharged at Huntsville, Alabama. Deceased was a member of the Columbia Avenue Methodist church and passed away in full hope of a blessed life beyond. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. J. D. W. Deaver, Ph.D., at the Columbia Avenue church at 1.30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, and the remains will be conveyed in the afternoon train to Philipsburg where interment will be made.
