A telegram was received in this city last evening announcing the death, at Edgewood, Allegheny county, of Mr. John F. Rainey, a respected citizen of Altoona. Six weeks ago Mr. Rainey went to Edgewood for the purpose of paying a visit to Mrs. Mary L. McGinley, his sister. While there he was taken ill, and after lingering for several weeks died of a complication of diseases. He was in the 72d year of his age. No man was more respected in this city than was the deceased. For nineteen years he had been a resident and in that time had endeared many to him by his admirable traits of character. He was a consistent member of the First Lutheran church. He leaves a wife and an adopted son - John M. Rainey - to mourn the loss of one who was ever true and kind. His body will be brought to Altoona on mail express this evening and taken to his late home, No. 1104 Thirteenth avenue. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Morning Tribune, Wednesday, October 22, 1890 Will Be Buried To-Day. The remains of the late John F. Rainey were brought to Altoona on mail express last evening from Edgewood, Allegheny county. Mr. Rainey was 72 years of age on the 2d of May last and was born in Westmoreland county. For many years he carried on the mercantile business at New Alexandria, in his native county, but was compelled to relinquish this occupation because of ill health.
