Reed, well known to many friends as "Daddy" Reed, died Saturday 2:45 a.m. at a local hospital, as a result of a fall January 18, in which his left hip was broken. Pneumonia ensued, causing death. Mr. Reed was a son of Benjamin and Harriet Allen Reed, born at Hollidaysburg, March 7, 1855. He came to Altoona more than 50 years ago, working first for the P. R. R., then for the Altoona Iron company and later as elevator operator for the Schwarzenbach-Huber company. He was a life long member of the Lutheran church. He had been thrice married, first to Miss Anne Elizabeth Weaver, who died in 1899, then to Miss Mary Knipple, who died in 1905 and last to Mrs. Marguerite Rupp, who died six months ago. Surviving are a son and daughter, James D. Reed and Mrs. W. G. Wissinger, Altoona; one step daughter and four step sons: Mrs. Frank Hart, Claude, Paul and William Rupp, Altoona; Clarence Rupp, in Ohio; 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother and two sisters: B. B. Reed, Mrs. Nannie Stiffler and Mrs. Thomas Ray, Altoona. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the Steven's memorial chapel, where the body may be viewed this morning and until the service, which will be in charge of the Rev. C. H. Patterson and Rev. B. F. Waltz. Interment will follow in Carson Valley cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, January 27, 1930
