A Cripple Robbed of His Goods - Death of the Victim. There are different degrees of meanness, but the scoundrel who on Thursday night robbed a poor cripple named Charles Reed, is about the worst we have heard of. It may be a satisfaction to him to know that his victim has since died and was never aware of the wrong done him. Charles Reed was a man who had been paralyzed and could not use his lower limbs, but pushed himself about in a little wagon made for him. Some of his friends fixed up a small shop near the culvert and stocked it with tobacco, cigars, oranges, pretzels and other articles of this class. Last week he opened out and was in a fair way to make a living, but on Thursday night some scoundrel unlocked the front door of the shop and stole all the contents. The thief is not known positively, but from his plan of operations is evidently the same individual who has been doing considerable house breaking in that part of the city. Two or three days since Reed was taken sick and has been lying at the residence of Charles Heisler, beyond the culvert. During Thursday night he probably had another paralytic stroke, as yesterday, when a physician was called, his lungs were found to be so congested with blood that his decease was only a question of a few hours. He died at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, entirely unaware of the wrong done him by the brute who robbed his store. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, July 10, 1880
