Reed, one of Tyrone's oldest residents and a highly esteemed lady, died at 2.27 yesterday afternoon, at her home on Pennsylvania avenue. Three weeks ago Mrs. Reed, who had until that time, been in good health and a very active woman for her advanced age, was stricken by paralysis affecting one side of her body. Since first stricken, she had been in a semi-conscious condition, gradually failing until death claimed the tired body, and the spirit went to its Master. Mrs. Reed was born near Petersburg, Huntingdon county, Dec. 21, 1814, and was therefore was 78 years, 7 months and 6 days. She was the widow of James Reed who preceded her to the grave about thirty years ago. Shortly after his demise, she came to Tyrone where she had since resided. Surviving her, are three daughters and two sons: Mrs. S. H. Cree, of Roaring Springs; Mrs. John Reynolds, Los Angeles, Cal.; James B. Reed, near Union Furnace; Miss Annie and William M. Reed, of Tyrone. One brother and one sister also survive: Thomas Stewart, of near Punxsutawney; Mrs. Jane Wilson, of near Huntingdon. Mrs. Reed was from her first residence here, a member of the Presbyterian church and to all the duties of a true Christian woman she was strictly faithful. A kind and loving mother, she was beloved above all others in the household, and her pure character and amiable disposition had won and held hosts of friends. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Harvey Graeme Furbay, at the late home of the deceased at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. Interment in Tyrone cemetery.
