Charles Rhoades, a native of Duncansville and for some years a resident of Allegheny township, near Duncansville, but for the past six years a resident of Danville, Ill., where he was employed by a coal mining company, died on Sunday morning as he was being admitted to a Danville hospital, according to word received by his brother, Frank Rhoades of 409 Sixteenth Street, Duncansville. While particulars of the man's fatal illness have not been learned, it was stated that his death was not due to an accident. He is known to have been a sufferer from stomach and liver ailments for a number of years and it is presumed that this condition contributed to his demise. The deceased was 43 years of age and was a son of George and Sarah Rhoades of Allegheny township, a short distance west of Duncansville. He was born in Duncansville. Prior to the World War he enlisted in the United States army and served for a time in Mexico. Because of his physical condition he was not eligible to serve during the World War. He is survived by his parents, his wife, who was formerly Miss Esther Webb, and three children, Gerald, Sarah and Jackie, all of Pinecroft, and one brother, Frank Rhoades of Duncansville. The body will arrive here this evening or tomorrow morning and will be taken to his parental home near Duncansville. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church at Newry, where the funeral will be held with requiem mass by Rev. Roger S. O'Donnell. Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery at Newry at a time to be announced upon the arrival of the body. Obituary not dated. Archie Claar Obituary Collection, Vol. 2 (1933-1935), page 164.
