Rhoades Long-Time Westvaco Corporation Employee Daniel L. Rhoades, 79, of 533 Oak Street, Tyrone, died Thursday, at 11:10 a.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health for two years. He was born on December 5, 1913, in Tyrone, the son of Laurie W. and Clara Marian (Thompson) Rhoades. He married Dorothy L. Keller on February 27, 1942, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife, of Tyrone, three sons and one daughter: John D., Oxnard, CA, Barry C, Mark E., and Brenda Romano, all of Tyrone, 10 grandchildren, two great- granddaughters, two brothers and one sister: George W. Rhoades, Altoona; Laurie W. Rhoades, Tyrone; and Dorothy McClellan, Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a son, Courtney, on October 27, 1989, and by five sisters and three brothers. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Tyrone. He was also a member of the Anderson-Denny V.F.W., the Blazing Arrow Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company and the Local 1388 U.P.I.U. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving with the HQ Co. 119th Infantry in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign. He retired December 31, 1978, as a pipe fitter leadman at the Westvaco Corp., Tyrone, following 46 years of service. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 1,1993, at 11 a.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with the Reverend Paul V. Sweitzer officiating. Graveside military services will be held at Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Sunday from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Community Nursing Agency, 1055 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone, Pa.
