Rhodes, 1225 Pennsylvania ave., died Wednesday at his home, unexpectedly. He was born Jan. 24, 1916, at Tyrone, a son of Samuel and Verna Cupp Rhodes. He had been a resident of Tyrone for the past 14 years, having formerly resided in Washington, D.C. Surviving are his mother, a son Randall K., of Sunbury, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Jane)Thompson, of Warriors Mark, R.D.; Mrs. Charles (Frances) Baker, Tyrone; Mrs. Herbert (Patricia) Williams, of Altoona, a brother, Harold C., of Tyrone. He was of the Protestant faith and a veteran of World War 2, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Anderson-Denny Post 4559 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Co. He had been retired on disability in 1958 after eight years with the U.S. Naval gun factory, Washington, D.C. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Leroy Harrison. Burial will be in Spring Mount Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday until the hour of service. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., July 13, 1972
