All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ Mrs. Mary Rice, One of Altoona's oldest and most respected residents, died at her home, 1313 Thirteenth avenue, at 8:05 o'clock this morning, of pneumonia and diseases incident to old age. She had been ill about five weeks. Mrs. Rice was born in Adee, County Louth, Ireland, 75 years ago and was married there. She came with her husband and family forty years ago, and after residing for a time in Hollidaysburg came to Altoona about the time work was begun on the railroad shops. She lived ever since in the house where she died. Her husband, Thos. Rice, died on July 4, 1865. She leaves six children, viz: Mrs. Ann Nally, Mrs. Mary Redding, William and Mrs. Kate Clohessy, of this city; Thomas, of Pittsburg, and Owen, of Joliet, Ill. Mrs. Rice was a good neighbor, a faithful wife, a loving mother and an earnest and devout Christian. She was one of the oldest members of St. John's Catholic congregation. Requiem mass will be said over the remains in St. John's church on Monday morning at 9 o'clock, after which the interment will be made in St. John's cemetery.
