David Fay Ritchey, aged 21 years, died yesterday morning at 3:45 o'clock at the Altoona hospital following an attack of influenza which developed into pneumonia. The mother, Mrs. Susan A. Ritchey died last Friday at Camp Upton, N.Y., where she and her son David, had gone to visit his brother. Mrs. Ritchey and her son, David, left Altoona early last week, following receipt of a telegram announcing the serious illness of a son, Aden Thomas. Enroute from the train to the camp the mother and son traveled through a severe storm, both being taken ill next day with influenza. Mrs. Ritchey's condition became grave and she was admitted to the hospital at Camp Upton. In the meantime the son, David, came to his home. His condition grew worse and he was admitted to the Altoona hospital last Friday. The mother died Friday morning at Camp Upton and the news of the death was kept from the son, David, who died yesterday. The son ill at camp, is ignorant of both deaths owing to his extremely grave condition. David Fay Ritchey was the son of Milton and Susan Ritchey and was aged 21 years. Surviving are the following brothers: M. Austin in France, Adon Thomas at Camp Upton, L.I., Ira H., in training in Kentucky, and William Martha R., Anna Isabelle, John and George, all at home. The remains of the mother will arrive in Altoona today from Camp Upton and will be received by Funeral Directors Lafferty & Tobias. A double funeral will be held with services in the Memorial Baptist church. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, December 3, 1918
