Johnstown Tribune: John Ritchey, a man 40 years of age, came here with his family from Blue Knob, Blair county, five weeks ago Thursday. He obtained work as a laborer at blast furnace No. 1 of the Cambria iron company, and was in the discharge of his duty between 11 and 12 o'clock Thursday night when his life was crushed out under the wheels of a train of cars. It appears that at the time of the accident he was cleaning in the yard, and was crossing the track of the Cambria iron company's railway when the rear car of a train which was being backed through the yard struck him, with the result above stated. His body was cut in two and otherwise mutilated. The remains were taken to the late home of the deceased on Railroad street, Cambria, where they were prepared for burial. They will be taken this morning to Portage, whence they will be conveyed overland to Blue Knob, where interment will be made. Deceased was a member of the German Reformed church. He leaves a wife and seven children in poor circumstances. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, May 5, 1887, page 3
