MARY (SHAW) RITCHEY [photo] Aged Resident, Retired Teacher Called by Death Mrs. Mary (Shaw) Ritchey, 84, wife of William B. Ritchey of 105 E. 26th Ave., died at her home at 9.30 p.m. yesterday after an extended illness. She retired as a school teacher in 1951 after 52 years of service and as Newry correspondent of the Altoona Mirror in 1953 after 36 years. She was born at Puzzletown on Dec. 28, 1881, a daughter of Amos and Alice (Baker) Shaw, and on June 24, 1954, married Mr. Ritchey in the Newry Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband, eight step-children, Elwood, Raymond and Clyde of Altoona, Mrs. Catherine Shew of Buffalo, N.Y., Dean of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Dorothy Askey of Poland, Ohio, Donald of Maywood, N.J., and Mrs. Betty Austin of Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister and three brothers, Mrs. Sara Long of Baltimore, Richard J. of Pittsburgh, Fred of Leamersville and Charles of Newry. She was a member of the Newry Lutheran Church and had taught in the Newry, Puzzletown and Northfield, Hollidaysburg, schools.
