Roberts, of Philadelphia, died here at the home of his mother, Mrs. William Roberts, Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock, death being due to a complication of diseases. For some time past he had been in ill health and he came here accompanied by his wife, about two weeks ago, hoping the change might be for his betterment. Though loving hands cared for him, disease had sapped his vitality and could not be stayed. At the time above stated the Angel of Death carried his spirit to the great beyond. Owen Roberts was a son of a former well known merchant and county auditor, William Roberts, deceased, and Mrs. Roberts, and was born at this place July 26, 1879. He was educated in our public schools and also was a student at Grove City college. His younger days were spent at Martinsburg. About twenty-three years ago he went to Philadelphia where he was employed as a machinist by the Baldwin Locomotive company as long as his health permitted. March 17, 1901, he was united in marriage with Miss Cora Dennis, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Theophilus S. Shoemaker, Mrs. Paul L. Wolfe, Mrs. May Gilfillin and Dr. Frank Roberts, all of Philadelphia, and Harry Roberts of the west. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. Funeral services were held at the home of his mother yesterday, Thursday, morning at 10 o'clock, services being in charge of Rev. Francis Garden. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery at this place. Martinsburg Herald, May 13, 1921
