All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ JOHN RODGERS, An old gentleman well known by almost all the residents of the First ward, died suddenly of stomach trouble between 3 and 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 1003 Green avenue. He was in ordinary health at noon, but about 3 o'clock was seized with vomiting. Dr. J. U. Blose was hastily summoned. He pronounced the case to be of a most serious character, and although he did all that was possible for the patient, death ensued soon after his arrival. The deceased was born in Ebensburg, Cambria county, February 11, 1833. He came to this city twenty-four years ago, and for a time followed carpentering. Later he became the agent of a number of concerns, his last connection being with the Steward Iron company, of Cincinnati, O. About forty years ago he was married in Ebensburg to Miss Annie M. Daily, who survives, with the following children: Laura, John, Jennie and Charles, all at home. One brother and two sisters are also yet living: Mrs. Harriet Weisgarver, of this city; Mrs. Jane Singer, of Cambria county; Lewis Rodgers, of Ebensburg. Mr. Rodgers served in the late war with company I, Seventy-eighth Pennsylvania volunteers, and was discharged with an honorable record. He belonged to post 468, Grand Army of the Republic. The remains will be taken to Ebensburg for interment on Pacific tomorrow morning. Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, December 29, 1896, page 8
