John Rollins died at his residence in Hollidaysburg, on Saturday morning last after a long illness from a complication of diseases. The deceased was born in Blairsville, Indiana county, and located in Hollidaysburg when a mere child, and has resided there continuously since. From 1852 until 1855 he was principal of the Gaysport public school and for a number of years was engaged in the lumber business and subsequently was for several years employed us baggage master on the Hollidaysburg branch. For several years he served as tax and water rate collector for the borough. Since the completion of the new court house in 1877 he has been court crier and being a courteous gentleman he discharged his duties his duties faithfully and to the entire satisfaction of the court, members of the bar and court officers. He was esteemed and honored citizen, a companionable and social gentleman. He was a sturdy Republican and for many years had taken an active part in politics. He was for many years a member of the Baptist church, and was president of the board of trustees. He was the oldest member of the Hollidaysburg assembly of Artizans [sic]. He is survived by his wife and six sons and five daughters. One of his sisters is the wife of Hon. Thomas McCamant, of Harrisburg. The funeral occurred from the deceased's late residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon, the remains being interred at the Presbyterian cemetery at Hollidaysburg.
