As briefly announced in yesterday's paper, John H. Rollman, a well-known and prominent citizen of this section, died at his home near Vail Station, Snyder township, Sunday afternoon at 12.40 o'clock, of dropsy and heart trouble. Deceased was born at Sinking Spring, Berks county, September 28, 1843. He came from Mifflintown to Tyrone in 1868 and engaged in the drug business with John C. Kepler as partner, which some years after he relinquished and became correspondent clerk and bookkeeper in the photo copying house of Daniel Harris, and finally engaged in the business for himself, which he continued until his late illness forced him to quit. In early life he learned the printer's trade and was a humorous writer of considerable ability. He was a genial and whole-souled companion and had many warm friends. Mr. Rollman enlisted as a private in company A, Ninety- third Pennsylvania volunteers, August 2, 1872, and afterward became hospital steward and ordnance sergeant of that regiment. He served to the end of the civil war and was honorably discharged July 10, 1865. He was severely wounded in the right thigh at the battle of Chancellorsville, May 3, 1863, for which he was pensioned at $12 a month. He was twice married. Shortly after coming to Tyrone he was married to Miss Sylvania Forey, who died in this place, January 25, 1874. To this union one daughter and one son survive, viz: Mrs. Emily Paine, of Gardner, Johnson county, Kansas, and Elmer Rollman, of Tyrone. On the 8th of August, 1878, deceased was married to Mrs. Mary Ginter, who survives him. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, living in Juniata county, the brothers at Mifflin town and the sister at Patterson. Funeral services will be held at the late home of deceased, near Vail station, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, to be conducted by Rev. W. W. Rymer, pastor of the United Brethren church in this place; interment to follow in Tyrone cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, October 3, 1899, page 2
