MRS. CATHERINE ROOT

  John H. Root, of 1002 Eighth avenue, a member of the City Planning 
commission, left at noon yesterday for Ephrata, Lancaster county, where 
he was called following the sudden death of his mother, Mrs. Catherine 
Root, who died yesterday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Marie 
Myers, of Ephrata.  Deceased was in her 83d year and was born in this 
state January 16, 1834.  She was a widowed lady, the wife of John Root, 
who died some years ago.  For two years she made her home with her son 
in this city, and is survived by a son, John H., of this city, and two 
daughters, Mrs. Marie Myers and Mrs. Emma Styer, both of Ephrata.
