William E., son of Richard and Eliza Rowan, died at half-past 1 o'clock on Saturday morning at the parental residence, No. 1328 Sixteenth avenue. His illness extended over a period of six months and though at times his sufferings were intense he bore them uncomplainingly and when the final summons came he was well prepared to answer, the last rites of the Catholic church having been administered shortly before his death, which was caused by phthisis. Despite the fact that everything possible was done to check the progress of the disease, the best medical skill of this city and Philadelphia having been brought to bear on the case, all attempts to prolong a life which gave every indication of a successful future, proved futile and death ensued at the time above given. The death, though anticipated, was a great shock to the members of the immediate family and the announcement was received with sincere expressions of sorrow by his large circle of acquaintances. He was 19 years of age, and for a year previous to his illness had worked in the company's tin shop, learning his trade under Foreman A. B. Hamilton. He was faithful in the performance of his duties and was well liked by his employer and fellow workmen. Besides his parents he is survived by three brothers - James, Peter and Richard Rowan, all of whom live in this city, and five sisters, who are: Mrs. John Dunphy, Mrs. William Gilmartin, and Misses Annie and Lizzie, of Altoona, and Mrs. Thomas Hopkins, of Wilmerding, Pa. The funeral will take place this morning, leaving the late residence at half-past 8 o'clock, to proceed to St. John's church, of which the deceased was a member, where at 9 o'clock mass will be celebrated. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, November 17, 1890
