"Rummy" Rumberger, age 80 of 1067 Logan Ave., Tyrone, died Saturday morning, Sept. 24, 2005 at his home. He was born Dec. 23, 1924 in Tyrone, the son of Allen G. Rumberger and Ann Wilson Rumberger Furch. On Aug. 28, 1947 he was married in the First Presbyterian Church, Tyrone to Christine B. "Punkie" Bowser who survives. Also surviving are two sons - Harry A. Rumberger of Clearwater, FL and John W. Rumberger and wife Renee of Mechanicsburg and one step- granddaughter, Jessica Carchildi of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dr. Wilson Rumberger. Mr. Rumberger was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1942 and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor's degree. For a number of years he had operated a laboratory in Tyrone and retired from the State of Pennsylvania as the Director of the Bureau of Drug Control. He was a veteran of service in the US Navy during World War II, serving as an Ensign in San Diego, CA and Pensacola, FL. He was a member of Howard Gardner Post #281, American Legion, the Tyrone F. & A.M. Lodge #494, the Altoona Consistory, the Jaffa Shrine and the Tyrone and Altoona Shrine Clubs. He was a life member of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, a member of the former Tyrone Gardner Guards Drum and Bugle Corps, a member of Gardner Club and of the Red Rock Hunting Camp of Julian. He had attained the rank of Eagle Scout, later serving as a Scout leader and as a member of the board of directors of Camp Anderson. He was an avid outdoorsman. Funeral service for Mr. Rumberger will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Dr. Dennis R. Gable officiating. Interment with military flag presentation will be made at Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
