Death called Miss Annie E. Russell, of North Pennsylvania avenue, at 3.22 yesterday afternoon, following an illness of several years from rheumatism and heart trouble. Miss Russell had been a total invalid since 1913 and had been bedfast since January. She was a daughter of James and Catherine Russell (deceased) and was born in Limerick, Ireland, in December of 1853. In the fall of 1860, the Russells came to this country and made their home for a short time with relatives at Tipton. Here the mother was united in marriage with Mr. Shay. They came to Tyrone and lived in a little home on North Logan avenue (then Logan street) where part of the paper mill now stands. Mr. Shay died in 1893. Michael Shay was the last of her blood relations. He was a Tyrone division engineer and was killed at Mill Hall in 1880. Miss Russell leaves two half brothers, John Shay of Pittsburg, and James, of Tyrone; also a half sister, Mrs. Mary Malady, who had been her faithful nurse for the past several years. Funeral services in charge of Rev. Looney will be held from St. Matthew's Catholic church on Friday morning at 9 o'clock, where she had been a faithful attendant since early girlhood. Interment will be made in Oak Grove cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday Morning, February 8, 1917
