Wertz Russell, 87, 147 Clover Drive, Hollidaysburg Manor Apartments, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 20, 1995, at Altoona Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 27, 1907, in Hollidaysburg, the daughter of the late Maxwell W. and Lillian R. (Hileman) Wertz. She married Bert O. Russell May 1, 1940, in Johnstown. He died April 23, 1972. Mrs. Russell was a lifelong member of West Loop Missionary Church, Hollidaysburg, where she taught Sunday school, was a youth leader and a member of the Missionary Womens International of the church. She retired as a school teacher, having taught at Frankstown, Claysburg and Tyrone schools, in 1969, after 43 years of service. Mrs. Russell was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and attended Juniata College, Huntingdon, and Penn State University. She was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are two sisters: Ethel Endress and Erdene Shoenfelt, both of Hollidaysburg. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home, Duncansville. RUSSELL - Services for Margaretta M. Wertz Russell, 147 Clover Drive, Hollidaysburg Manor Apts., will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., Duncansville by the Rev. Terry Farr. Interment at Alto-Reste Park. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Leathers of Cleveland on Aug. 3, 1973, and brothers: Virgil on July 2, 1973, Rev. Max of Springfield, Ohio in July 1976 and David M. on July 30, 1994.
