Rutherford, residing at Thomastown, Snyder Township, Blair County, and who, with his wife had been spending the winter at St. Cloud, Florida, died suddenly at the Veterans hospital, Bay Pines, Florida, on Saturday, January 15, 1944. He was born on February 15, 1880, in Huntingdon County, and had been a resident of Tyrone and vicinity for over 50 years. Mr. Rutherford was the youngest member of the Sheridan Troop, Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, when it was called into service during the Spanish-American War, enlisting on June 11, 1898, being honorably discharged in November, 1898, serving with the troop in Puerto Rico. He was a member of Tyrone Camp No. 85, United Spanish War Veterans Association and the Sheridan Troop Veterans. He was buried at Bay Pines, Florida, on Monday, January 17, being accorded full military honors. Daily News, Huntingdon, Pa., Saturday, January 22, 1944
